Quartzites

Quartzite is a hard, non-foliated metamorphic rock that originally formed from pure quartz sandstone. Through the process of metamorphism, which involves heat, pressure, and sometimes chemically active fluids, the quartz grains in the sandstone recrystallize and fuse together, resulting in an extremely strong and dense rock.
